WHAT IS THE MATERIAL OF A LILJEHOLMENS CANDLE?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STEARIN CANDLES AND PARAFFIN CANDLES?
Paraffin is an alternative to stearin and is used in both tealights and regular candles. Liljeholmens's candles contain only stearin - a renewable raw material made from fat, unlike paraffin candles, which are made from mineral oil, fossil oil, and are often a residual product from the oil industry.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT LILJEHOLMENS KANAL CANDLES?
The four channels in Liljeholmens's traditional Kanalljus lead away excess stearin. The channels provide extra safety against candle spillage, e.g., in draughts or where there are many people.
HOW ARE LILJEHOLMENS'S CANDLES MADE?
The candles are made in Liljeholmens's factory in Oskarshamn in the same way as when Liljeholmens once started in 1839. Liquid hot stearin (60 degrees) is filled into a pre-heated metal mold. The mold is then slowly cooled with air or water so that the stearin will solidify. A cotton wick is placed in the middle of the mold. Once the candle has solidified, it is taken out of the mold, processed (for example, sawned) and packaged.
WHERE CAN I BUY LILJEHOLMENS'S CANDLES?
Liljeholmen candles can be found in well-stocked grocery stores in Sweden. If you can't find the candle you're looking for, ask the store if they can include the candle in their range.

WHY IS THE WICK IN LILJEHOLMENS'S CANDLE BRAIDED?
A braided wick bends ninety degrees when the candle burns. Then the end of the wick is at the edge of the candle flame where the temperature is 1400 degrees and the wick burns up completely and at the same rate as the candle!
THE LILJEHOLMENS'S CANDLE PACKAGING STATES THAT THE CANDLE SHOULD BURN FOR SIX HOURS, BUT NOW THE CANDLE HAS BURNED LONGER THAN THAT. ARE THE BURNING TIMES ON THE PACKAGING NOT CORRECT?
The burning time of a candle is carefully examined in tests at our laboratory, but the burning time may still differ slightly from the stated time on the packaging. This may depend, among other things, on the temperature of the room where your candle is placed, the size of the room, or how long you let the candle burn each time you light it.
For example, a tealight may burn for less than the specified time if you light and extinguish it several times. A tea light burns best and longest if it is allowed to light only once and then burn nicely until it goes out on its own.
WHY DO SOME CANDLES LOSE THEIR SHAPE?
Stearin candles and paraffin candles have different properties and melting points. Even in hot conditions, stearin candles are the best choice, thanks to their high melting point of 57°C. You'll notice the difference if you put a candle and a paraffin candle in a sunlit window - soon the paraffin candle will have warped and lost its shape, while the stearin candle still will be straight and beautiful!
HOW IS A TEA LIGHT SUPPOSED TO BE USED?
All tealights - whatever the brand - are designed to be lit only once and then allowed to burn out. You should not light and extinguish tea lights several times. If you still do so, make sure that all the candle wax (or paraffin wax if you are lighting such a candle) has heated up completely, i.e. is liquid, before you extinguish the candle, otherwise a pit may form in the middle of the candle or the wick may be affected in such a way that the flame becomes small and thin. Tea lights may also burn less brightly if the room is cold or if a tea light is placed outside in a lantern during winter. A metal tealight holder can also cause heat from the candle to be dissipated and therefore burn more poorly and with a lower flame. READ MORE ABOUT OUR TEALIGHTS HERE>
I THINK IT'S SO COZY WITH LOTS OF LIT CANDLES AT HOME - BUT WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY AND LIT CANDLES?
It's great to have candles lit, especially when it gets dark in the fall, and it's important to be safe so you can feel secure! It is important to keep the following in mind:
- Do not leave candles unattended. A good rule is that the person who lit the candles is responsible for them - and puts them out!
- Never leave children or animals alone with candles.
- Preferably use ceramic and metal candle holders.
- Make sure that the candle is free and stable both on the base and in the candleholder.
- Think about where you place the candle, so that, for example, a curtain cannot be fluttered by wind or the elements or that the candle is placed above a flammable material such as a sofa, TV or other electrical appliances.
- Replace the moss in the Advent candle holder with non-combustible decorations, such as beautiful stones or shells.
- Do not place the candles too close to each other - at least 7 cm should be left between two lit candles.
